Important Note: Some regions in Kenya are marked for essential travel only. These include areas near the Somali border, and counties like Mandera and parts of Kilifi.
Do UK Citizens Need a Visa to Visit Nairobi, Kenya?
Yes, but not the usual kind of visa. Starting from 1 January 2024, Kenya removed traditional visa requirements for most nationalities, including the UK. Instead, all travellers must apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation, or eTA.
UK passport holders need to sort their eTA online at least three days before their flight. The only official site is etakenya.go.ke. You can’t get the eTA at the airport or after arrival.
To apply, you must have:
A British passport that’s valid for at least six months from the arrival date.
At least two blank pages in your passport.
The eTA costs about 30 to 34 US dollars and allows a single entry for up to 90 days. Apply early, as no boarding is allowed without an approved eTA
